  • Pickup: Please be ready at least 5 minutes before your scheduled pickup time. Pickup locations are as arranged in your booking (Cairns area or en route). We do ask all guests to allow 15-20 minute pick up window as we do many pickups in the Cairns CBD area and this can vary from day to day. If your guide is not at your pick up location on the dot, please do not panic, they will be on their way and we just ask you to be patient. 

    Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are subject to the following fees:
    • More than 61 days prior to departure: $600 per person retained

    • 60–46 days prior: 25% of the total tour cost

    • 45–31 days prior: 50% of the total tour cost

    • 30 days or fewer prior: 100% of the total tour cost

    If Discovery Tours Australia cancels a tour due to weather or operational reasons, passengers will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.

  • Begin your journey in Cairns and travel through the lush rainforests and highlands of the Atherton Tablelands before the landscape opens into the rugged outback, where you’ll pass the historic Palmer River goldfields, Black Mountain and Archer Point on the way to Cooktown. Spend the next morning exploring Cooktown’s rich heritage, including the James Cook Museum and Grassy Hill lookout, then continue south via the iconic 4WD-only Bloomfield Track to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Your final day takes you into the heart of the Daintree Rainforest for a river cruise, wildlife spotting and a peaceful visit to Mossman Gorge before returning to Cairns along the stunning Great Barrier Reef Drive.

    Day 1 – Cairns to Cooktown (via Wet Tropics & Atherton Tablelands  Outback to Cooktown)

    • Pick-up from accommodation in Cairns

    • 4WD drive through rainforest and river crossings, including a walk on a boardwalk among giant Strangler Fig trees in the Wet Tropics, then travel through Mareeba and the Tablelands with views from Bob’s Lookout  

    • Continue into Savannah country and stop for lunch at the Palmer River Roadhouse 

    • Visit the outback region including the striking Black Mountain area, then the historic Archer Point Lighthouse before arriving in Cooktown  

    • Overnight accommodation in Cooktown (private ensuite: single/twin/double)  

    • Meals included: Lunch, Dinner 

    Day 2 – Explore Cooktown, then 4WD via Bloomfield Track to Cape Tribulation

    • Morning: Guided town tour of Cooktown + visit to James Cook Museum + visit to Grassy Hill Lookout for panoramic views over Cooktown and the “River of Gold.”  

    • Lunch at the historic Lion’s Den Hotel (on the banks of the Annan River — famous and full of character)  

    • Then depart Cooktown via 4WD along the Bloomfield Track, enjoying scenic spots including the Bloomfield Falls, Cedar Bay National Park and rainforest boardwalks.  

    • Arrive at Cape Tribulation — where rainforest meets reef. Free time to walk on the beach or head up to Kulki Lookout.  

    • Overnight accommodation in Cape Tribulation (private ensuite)  

    • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner  

    Day 3 – Cape Tribulation to Cairns (via Daintree River, Mossman Gorge & Coast)

    • After breakfast, drive to Thornton Beach for a beach stop (near Thornton Peak) — opportunity for photos and a short break  

    • Continue to Alexandra Lookout for sweeping views over the Daintree River mouth, nearby islands and the reef beyond.  

    • Cross the Daintree River Ferry, then take a ~1-hour guided cruise on the Daintree River — great chance to spot crocodiles, native birds and appreciate the rainforest-river ecosystem.  

    • Lunch at a local spot (the tour suggests the Daintree Tea House — known for regional tropical dishes, sometimes including barramundi & tropical fruits).  

    • Visit Mossman Gorge for a guided walk and optional swim (depending on time/conditions) in the rainforest’s southern section.  

    • Return to Cairns (or Port Douglas) via the scenic coastal route along the Captain Cook Highway. Drop-off at accommodation in the early evening.  

    • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, plus return to accommodation drop-off.
